FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We felt it might be useful for those of you that wish to visit St. John or St. John Bread and Wine to add a FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - page to the site to answer some of those questions ahead of calling to ease and speed up the process of making a reservation and to answer some of the points we're often asked by diners and other visitors to the restaurants.
We'll add more as requested and do hope that you find the following list helpful when planning your visit and if there is something you feel would be useful to add, do email us using the comments form on the home page of either site.
HOW DO I GET TO St. JOHN or St. JOHN BREAD and WINE?
On each website you'll find a hybrid map which should help you find the nearest tube stations to both restaurants but a few more directions might speed your journey time up a little.
For St. John take the circle, hammersmith & city or metropolitan line to Farringdon. Exit the station bearing left and cross over Turnmill Street on to Cowcross Street which takes you to the junction with St. John Street. At the junction you'll see Smithfield Market opposite you, turn left and walk along St. John Street for around 50 yards and you'll see St. John on the opposite side of the street.
For St. John Bread and Wine, take the same tube lines along to Liverpool Street and exit the tube station right on to the concourse of the mainline station. Exit the concourse via the escalators out on to Broadgate and turning left walk east. Take the right hand turn on to Brushfield Street and walk all the way to the end, past the side of Spitalfields Market and you will have Christchurch Spitalfields in front of you. Turn left on to Commercial Street and around 30 yards down you will see Bread and Wine across the street.
For bus routes from your starting out point, London Transports journey planner is very useful and can be found on the TFL website.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
Neither St. John or St. John Bread and Wine has a dress code policy.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
Whilst neither of our restaurants offer parking for guests, there are NCP carparks and metered parking facilities close by to both.
At Smithfield there is a NCP carpark located on the west side of the market between the Grand Avenue and St. Bartholomews Hospital.
There is also metered parking along St. John Street and some parking restrictions are lifted after 7.00 pm though we do advise studious reading of the restrictions when you have found a parking space.
At Spitalfields there is metered parking in most of the adjacent streets off Commercial Street. Commercial Street itself is a red route and therefore there is no parking directly outside the restaurant.
See the maps on the contact pages of the relevant restaurant you wish to visit for NCP carpark locations.
IS THERE ACCESS FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS?
St. John, Smithfield has wheelchair access to the bar area including a disabled persons lavatory. There is a short but somewhat steep flight of steps in to the main dining room which may restrict some wheelchair users. However, with notice we can offer our dining room menu to wheelchair users in the bar area and will reserve a table for them in the bar.
The entrance to St. John Bread and Wine, although being on the ground floor, does feature a raised step in to the restaurant. We have ramps on site that we can have ready to hand with a little notice. St. John Bread and Wine does not have disabled lavatory facilities.
CAN WE BRING OUR CHILDREN TO THE RESTAURANTS or BAR?
Absolutely!
We're delighted to have children visit our restaurants and although we do not provide a childrens menu, experience has taught us that most children have a healthy curiosity about the dishes we serve and usually, with a little guidance, find something on the menu to suit their tastes.
For younger children, both restaurants are equipped with high chairs upon request and although we don't have microwave ovens at our restaurants we will happily assist with heating baby food parents wish to bring.
Do be sure to include children in the numbers of guests at your table, especially when booking for a large group.
Whilst children are welcome at both of our restaurants we would like to ensure their safety and ask that parents remember that restaurants are busy and possibly hazardous environments for children.
It is also worth pointing out to visitors to St. John Smithfield that, whilst we again welcome younger diners, the evenings are perhaps a little too frenetic in our bar for children and feel lunchtime would be a more comfortable time of day for dining in the bar.
ARE DOGS PERMITTED?
With the exception of guide dogs, we do not permit dogs or other pets at St. John Bread and Wine or in the dining room at St. John.
Visitors to the bar at St. John may bring dogs with them but are restricted to the tables in the corridor area of the bar. If a dog becomes aggressive or overly noisy we will ask the owner to remove it from the building.
